Less talking/more doing!

Take actionWhat we think, or what we know, or what we believe, is, in the end, of little consequence. The only consequence is what we do. – Jon Ruskin

It seems the easiest thing to do in the world is to say you’re going to do something.  But, how many of us actually do the things we say we will?  How often do we break promises, cancel plans, or forget the things we’ve agreed to?  I often hear people talk about their dreams, big or small, and what they want to do to achieve them, but in the end, most people never take action to make anything happen.

This culture of broken promises is everywhere – from television, to magazines, to work and everyday life.  And it’s affecting out perception of trust.  If we can’t even count on ourselves to follow through on our words, then how can we count on anyone else?

We are each responsible for how our lives take shape, and how we shape the lives of others.  So when we consistently go back on our word, or don’t follow through, we’re not only affecting our own life by creating a lifestyle of unreliability, but we also affect those around us, by breaking their trust, disappointing them, or losing them from our lives altogether.

I’ve had friends from all over tell me recently that their so-called “friends” are becoming less reliable, or unreliable altogether, untrustworthy, dishonest, or are flat-out disappearing from their lives.  Also, by making commitments that we can’t fulfill, we give up control in our lives; we become slaves to an impossible schedule.

So what’s the solution?  It comes down to being honest with ourselves and with others.  If we can do that, meaning, not promise more than we can deliver to ourselves and others, than we can save ourselves all the negative repercussions.

Therefore if you need to, commit to less, and do more.  If you can be honest about your expectations of yourself and of others, then the chances of disappointing someone, or yourself, will decrease. Not only that, but you can begin to regain control over your life.  This way you can be more honest with yourself and avoid disappointing others.  You’ll be able to create a positive change in your life, one toward fulfillment of your goals.  Once you start, it’s difficult to stop.

So, let’s stop with all the chatter and start making moves.  Start taking control over your life.  Begin the commitment to yourself, to stop making empty promises and false commitments, and to stop lying to yourself and others.  Instead of just talking about doing something, go out and actually do it!

The only way to make things happen in your life is to action yourself; grab your life by the proverbial balls, and twist – because, like I said, if you can’t count on yourself, how do you expect to be able to count on anyone else? Keep in mind that there is no such thing as the perfect time to do anything. Whether it’s about moving, a career choice a personal choice or even just a make over, make a plan and get it done. Just do it!
